Partner Collaboration Program:
Building Synergy for Marine Conservation
Smiling Coral Indonesia (SCI) is committed to preserving marine ecosystems through various collaborative programs with stakeholders, including the government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), local communities, and the private sector. These collaborations are designed to support sustainable marine conservation activities, focusing on the preservation of coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangrove forests, as well as the development of environmentally based ecotourism.
Collaboration with the Government: Ministry of Environment (KLH)
One of SCI's main partnerships is with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) through the Thousand Islands National Park. During the 2020–2022 period, SCI obtained a conservation partnership permit for an area of 10 hectares in the Tanjung Elang Waters, Pramuka Island. This area consists of:
5 hectares of coral reefs, which are the main focus of marine biodiversity preservation.
3 hectares of seagrass beds, which play an important role as carbon sinks and habitats for marine life.
2 hectares of mangrove forest, which serve as coastal protection and ecosystem buffers.
The use of this area is limited to ecotourism activities, ensuring that all activities remain environmentally friendly and support conservation.

Collaboration with Foundations and Local Communities
SCI also collaborates with various organizations and communities to expand the impact of its conservation programs. In 2020, SCI partnered with the Carbon Ethics Foundation to implement a conservation outreach and education program aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of preserving marine ecosystems. In addition, SCI collaborates with several parties, including:
1. Marine Protected Area Groups (DPL-BM): Supporting sustainable management of marine protected areas.
2. Sudin KPKP: Providing technical and administrative support for conservation activities.
3. PERNITAS: Playing a role in strengthening the capacity of local communities.
4. POKDARWIS Pulau Panggang: Developing community-based ecotourism.
5. Community Partners of the Forest Police (Polhut): Assisting in monitoring and protecting conservation areas.
6. Citra Alam School: Providing an environmental education platform for the younger generation.
7. Divers Clean Action: Developing the "Curah" store during 2020–2022 to reduce plastic waste in coastal areas.
Partnerships with Academics and the Private Sector
To strengthen environmental conservation efforts, SCI collaborates with academic institutions and the private sector, such as:
1. Faculty of Biology, National University Jakarta: Supporting research and knowledge development related to marine conservation.
2. Marine Conservation Club (MCC): Mobilizing student communities to participate in conservation actions.
3. PT. Surf Marine Indonesia: Contributing through logistical and technological support.
4. Bone Polytechnic of Marine and Fisheries: Providing training and education to support marine resource management.
5. Banten Province DKP: Assisting in the coordination of conservation activities in the Banten region.
6. Pulau Macan Eco Lodge: Integrating ecotourism concepts into resort operations to support environmental preservation.
Impact and Goals of Collaboration
Through collaboration with various parties, SCI aims to:
Increase public awareness about the importance of marine conservation.
Strengthen the management of conservation areas through community-based approaches.
Reduce environmental impacts, such as plastic waste, through initiatives like the "Curah" store.
Develop sustainable ecotourism as an alternative economic opportunity for local communities.
Promote research and innovation in the preservation of marine ecosystems.
SCI's Partner Collaboration Program demonstrates a strong commitment to building synergy among stakeholders to preserve Indonesia's marine environment. By involving the government, NGOs, local communities, academics, and the private sector, SCI has successfully created positive impacts on marine ecosystems and surrounding communities. The sustainability of this program relies on continued collaboration, innovation, and active participation from all parties.
